About what a modern cynic with a high-school diploma would expect: Men, women, and children die horrible deaths while firefighters stand aside and the entire neighborhood (65 houses) burns. In the aftermath, a Mayoral committee censures the action, and the perpetrators escape any criminal charges. Reading Mayor Goode””s interview in the Philadelphia Inquirer 25 years later, he makes the clichéd statement, “Mistakes were made.” Ya think?

Glass Mines

Looking like an empty jar of homemade preserves, the Glasmine 43 glass mines used in World War II cannot be found by metal detector.  As a result, there are minefields  in North Rhein-Westfalia””s Nationalpark Eifel which are impossible to clear, and are still sealed from the public. The glass is also transparent to X-rays, which makes the removal of glass shrapnel impossible.
